Is Consciousness Even Real?
Something that has always bothered me is this: is consciousness really a thing? Do we actually have consciousness, or are we just a bunch of neurons and chemicals creating the illusion of being conscious? For example, can an AI truly be conscious? If you study how AI works, you can see it’s basically a very complex pattern machine. A system that tries to predict which words should come next based on the context of previous ones and the input it receives. That shows us that what we call AI nowadays doesn’t really have consciousness. And the question that comes to my mind is: are we really that different? Aren’t I, right now as I write this, just like a machine trying to predict the next word based on the previous ones? If you think about it for just a couple of minutes, you might conclude that we are not the same.
